FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

QUESTIONS ABOUT INDIVIDUAL HOUSING NEEDS

How can I find affordable housing for myself?

NPH is not an affordable housing provider. If you need affordable housing, please contact the housing department in the city and county where you live. To download NPH’s fact sheet with advice and additional referrals, please go to our How Do You Find It? page.

How can I get my community to build more affordable housing?

Get involved with NPH. You can visit our Housing Policy & Advocacy page to find out what we’re going on, or download a toolkit on our Toolkits: Advocate Resources page to learn how to be a more effective advocate for affordable housing.

QUESTIONS ABOUT NPH MEMBERSHIP

Who are NPH members?

NPH members span the spectrum of the Bay Area’s affordable housing field. Our over 700 members include individuals and organizations. They are consultants, students, planners, architects, non-profits of all sizes, for-profit organizations, affordable housing financers, insurance providers, legal professionals, local governments, construction companies, and service providers.

Why should I become an NPH member?

NPH members have visibility and access to hundreds of housing professionals in the Bay Area, as well as access to the expertise and knowledge of NPH staff. Membership entitles you to invitations to exclusive events, free subscription to our newsletter, and participation in shaping our policy work. For more details about the benefits of membership, please see our Join or Renew page.

QUESTIONS ABOUT NPH PROGRAMS

How does NPH determine the direction of our policy work?

NPH’s policy work is driven by our board and our members. We have several working committees comprised of representatives of our member organizations that help to monitor legislation, bring up issues of concern, and link to local grassroots efforts. NPH’s policy stances are evaluated and approved by our Board of Directors.

For more information about current campaigns, legislative bill tracking and other programs, please see our Housing Policy & Advocacy page.

How can I submit a workshop for NPH’s brown bag trainings or fall conference?

NPH solicits workshops once annually, usually in the summer, in preparation for our fall conference. Workshop presenters must be NPH members in good standing. We issue a “Call for Workshops” through our weekly e-bulletins and our monthly newsletter. Submissions are evaluated by committee, who select both the next year’s monthly Brown Bag workshops, as well as the fall conference workshops from the pool. Join NPH or sign-up for e-bulletins to get news about the next “Call for Workshops.”
