SUMMARY:Resident Services: Introduction to Trauma Informed Care
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Introduction to Trauma Informed Care is a 90-minute virtual training on building awareness of trauma and implementing the principles of Trauma Informed Care. Prior to the instructor-led course\, it is required for participants to complete the self-paced pre-work taking approximately 90 minutes. The instructor-led portion will begin with a summation of the pre-work\, then focus on how trauma can potentially show up in the brains\, bodies\, and behaviors of others and sometimes ourselves. This interactive training will allow participants to share examples and ask questions related to the impact of trauma and trauma-informed responses within their work. Best practices along with other reliable resources will be shared with each participant in attendance. Participants will be able to: \n\nDefine trauma and recognize its prevalence\nRecognize connections between the impact of trauma and high-risk behaviors\nGain useful tips for working with individuals who have experienced trauma\nConsider ways to use the tools participants have learned to support resilience and stay calm in a moment\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row title=”Apply Today” style=”custom” gradient_color_1=”turquoise” gradient_color_2=”blue” gradient_custom_color_1=”#dd3333″ gradient_custom_color_2=”#eeee22″ gradient_text_color=”#ffffff” custom_background=”#ba5226″ custom_text=”#ffffff” outline_custom_color=”#666666″ outline_custom_hover_background=”#666666″ outline_custom_hover_text=”#ffffff” shape=”square” color=”grey” size=”md” align=”center” button_block=”” add_icon=”” i_align=”left” i_type=”fontawesome” i_icon_fontawesome=”fas fa-adjust” i_icon_openiconic=”vc-oi vc-oi-dial” i_icon_typicons=”typcn typcn-adjust-brightness” i_icon_entypo=”entypo-icon entypo-icon-note” i_icon_linecons=”vc_li vc_li-heart” i_icon_monosocial=”vc-mono vc-mono-fivehundredpx” i_icon_material=”vc-material vc-material-cake” i_icon_pixelicons=”vc_pixel_icon vc_pixel_icon-alert” custom_onclick=”” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fdocs.google.com%2Fforms%2Fd%2Fe%2F1FAIpQLSfUhy2pQJNEGOoNlugNOmD_VRrjudTFuZJ8Xwbx3wie5S_pBA%2Fviewform|||” el_class=”custom-button” custom_onclick_code=””][vc_column][vc_btn title=”Register today!” style=”custom” custom_background=”#ba5226″ custom_text=”#ffffff” shape=”square” align=”center” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fnphanc.my.salesforce-sites.com%2FNPHEvents%2FCnP_PaaS_EVT__ExternalRegistrationPage%3Fevent_id%3Da1z6f000007veODAAY|target:_blank” el_class=”custom-button”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nIf cost is an issue\, please email NPH Program and Events Associate Andrew@nonprofithousing.org. SUMMARY:Rest and Resilience in the Face of Political and Pandemic Challenges w/ Mariah Parker
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]In the face of unprecedented political challenges and the ongoing circumstances of the pandemic\, burnout feels omnipresent and inevitable. As well\, self-care is often co-opted by corporate interests who create the illusion that rest is something you buy or that it’s an individual’s problem rather than society’s\, the result of policies and practices of capitalism and white supremacy. \nHow can we create robust care practices to continue to fight the systems that are failing us? \nIn this presentation\, Mariah Parker will teach participants to reclaim self-care as an act of resistance and will lead participants through some of the daily practices they have cultivated in making the balancing act of work\, parenting\, school\, art\, and politics sustainable. Learn about radical gratitude\, rest as a journey\, creating portals to care and other nourishing mindsets and activities that can be built into any schedule\, on any budget\, to evade burnout and foster political longevity. \nSpeaker: Mariah Parker \nWhen: Thursday\, July 14 | 12pm – 1:30pm PT \nWhere: Zoom Meeting \n  \nRegister Today! \nRegistration deadline: Tuesday\, July 12 at 5pm PT \nAre you unable to attend but still want to watch the recording? Please still register for the training! \n  \n\n\n\nIf cost is an issue\, please email NPH Program and Events Associate Morgan@nonprofithousing.org. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds.\n  \nThis event will be hosted virtually. Do you need an ASL Interpreter or Closed Captioning? Please reach out to Morgan@nonprofithousing.org at least two weeks before the training\, if you need further assistance.\n\n\n\n\nREGISTRATION AND REFUND INFORMATION\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCancellation/Refund Deadline: Wednesday\, July 13 at 5pm PT\nRegistrants canceling their registration on or before Wednesday\, July 13 at 5pm PT will receive a full refund. NPH may consider refunds for extenuating circumstances. Refund requests submitted after the deadline are not guaranteed and will be reviewed on an individual basis. She first made headlines after being sworn in as an Athens-Clarke County Commissioner\, at age 26\, with a her hand on a copy of The Autobiography of Malcolm X held by her mother. Photos of her taking the oath went viral\, highlighting the growing numbers of millennial Black women making their voices heard in local politics nationwide. \nMariah is also openly queer\, a hip hop artist (her stage name is Linqua Franqa)\, a PhD candidate in linguistics at the University of Georgia where she is also a graduate teaching assistant in the department of language and literacy education\, and community organizer dedicated to transformative politics and civic engagement. As County Commissioner\, she is focusing on creating economic stability and racial justice as well as criminal justice reform and raising the minimum wage. \nBetween the release of a critically-acclaimed debut album and her tight election to the county commission\, Parker has garnered the attention of CNN\, The New York Times\, Teen Vogue\, National Public Radio\, Al Jazeera\, The Nation\, Afropunk\, The Root\, The Bitter Southerner\, Performer Magazine and others for her outspoken commitment to racial and economic justice and her electrifying live performances and presentations\, which call audiences to self-reflection and critical action in their lives and their communities. \nMariah is also co-host of the Waiting on Reparations\, a show on iHeartRadio about Hip Hop and politics where they explore the history of public policy and its impacts on Hip Hop life; what Hip Hop culture tells us about our political reality; and the role of Hip Hop in shaping our political future.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

There is growing evidence that the impact of directly supporting others through experiences of trauma\, oppression\, and poverty\, goes beyond burnout or fatigue. The toll of constantly witnessing and holding space for heavily charged human emotions and experiences can distort views about the self\, the world\, and the future. Individuals who have chosen to be in service to others\, often sacrifice their mental\, physical\, emotional\, and spiritual well-being to meet the demands of this calling. \nDuring this 2 part interactive enlightenment session\, participants will engage in a learning journey of self-exploration\, discovery\, healing\, and conscious action \nPart 2: We honor service providers in housing with a time of rejuvenation and collective care. During this session\, we will activate the power participants have to anchor in restorative practices to feel\, process and release the various traumas that affect how we show up in the spaces we lead and for the people we love. Participants will also think critically about the types of community partners and services needed to honor the mental and emotional needs of individuals living in affordable and public housing. \nDuring Part 2\, JVH will offer a safe and supportive space to: \n\nExplore restorative practices for mental\, emotional and physical health and wellness.\nIdentify the types of community partners\, services and promising practices that promote mental and emotional wellness for residents.\n\nThrough JVH’s healing-centered facilitation framework\, participants in this session will receive a safe and supportive space to heal\, unite and take collective action toward individual and collective healing\, liberation and empowerment. These session components are designed to support participants’ comfort and confidence in the digital learning environment. \nWhen: Thursday\, July 15 | 2pm – 5pm PDT\nWhere: Virtual\nFacilitators: Jenny Hicks & Vanessa Hernandez from J.V.H Empower Consulting\nImportant Note: Since this workshop is designed to be interactive and engaging with small group and paired discussions we are limiting registration to 4 sign ups per organization to maintain a manageable size \nClick here to view and register for “Part 1: Understanding the Effects of Trauma and Stress”.\nImportant Note: While we highly encourage participation in Part 1 and Part 2\, it is not required to attend either session. \n\nRegister Today! For questions\, please email Morgan@nonprofithousing.org.\nInterested in joining the Resident Services working group? Click here to learn more.\n\n\n  \nThis event will be hosted virtually. Do you need an ASL Interpreter or Closed Captioning? Please reach out to Morgan@nonprofithousing.org at least two weeks before the training\, if you need further assistance.\n\n  \n\n\n\nREGISTRATION AND REFUND INFORMATION\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCancellation/Refund Deadline: Tuesday\, July 13.\nRegistrants canceling their registration on or before Tuesday\, July 13 will receive a full refund. NPH may consider refunds for extenuating circumstances. Refund requests submitted after the deadline are not guaranteed and will be reviewed on an individual basis. To submit a refund request\, please email hilda@nonprofithousing.org.\n\n\n \nJ.V.H Empower:\nWhat We Do: We co-create spaces of belonging where all are seen and heard. These spaces of belonging ignite purpose\, passion and action in its collective members. These members are using their individual and collective gifts to eliminate the systems\, structures and beliefs that perpetuate oppression and rebuild them with loving and equitable societies. We co-create and partner with individuals/organizations who: \n\nEmpower and affirm individuals and collectives experiencing oppression.\nOffer high-quality relevant programs and services of pro-liberation\, healing and empowerment.\nEmbody a healing centered approach in every act of liberating the heart\, mind and body of oppressive beliefs\, actions and values\n\nJVH Heart Minded Facilitation: Psychological safety is a pillar in every JVH Empower project or partnership. Through healing centered facilitation and relational leadership practices\, JVH Empower creates environments that allow participants to stay grounded\, flexible\, curious\, present\, and emotionally self-regulate. These learning conditions help participants integrate and embody the sovereignty one has over their unique learner journey \nPowerful Truth: We have done transformative work with  resident services in public and affordable housing.Vanessa and Jenny:  Learn more about the Co-Creators of JVH Empower here! \n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Individuals who have chosen to be in service to others\, often sacrifice their mental\, physical\, emotional\, and spiritual well-being to meet the demands of this calling.  \nDuring this 2 part interactive enlightenment session\, participants will engage in a learning journey of self-exploration\, discovery\, healing\, and conscious action. \nDuring Part 1\, JVH will offer a safe and supportive space to: \n\nDefine and differentiate between the different types of trauma.\nRecognize the effects of trauma and its impact on the human mind\, body and spirit.\nExplore the oppressive systems and structures that perpetuate trauma and stress.\n\nThrough JVH’s healing-centered facilitation framework\, participants in this session will receive a safe and supportive space to heal\, unite and take collective action toward individual and collective healing\, liberation and empowerment. Providing a program virtually came with its own set of challenges. It also allowed us to slow down and engage in ways that offered psychological safety and inner strength to support our physical safety during a national pandemic. We have learned that we can create a culture where people feel safe\, engaged\, and deeply connected with others without being in the same room. This workshop will highlight the benefits of virtual program offerings\, explore promising practices\, and provide time to embody what we have learned into an action plan that supports creating ecosystems of belonging where all are seen\, heard\, and empowered to take action in a virtual or in-person setting. \nDuring this 3 hour workshop\, JVH will offer a safe and supportive environment to: \n\nUnderstand how intentional virtual program design can create empowered communities where all are seen\, heard\, and belong.\nExplore how positive program culture can foster a sense of belonging that contributes to beneficiaries mental\, social\, and emotional wellness.\nCreate an action plan for co-creating high quality relevant resident programming.\n\nParticipants in this session will receive a safe and supportive space to heal\, unite\, and take collective action toward individual and collective healing\, liberation and empowerment.
