Compact, efficient housing without bells and whistles often rents for less without requiring a subsidy, and SPUR has advocated for more of this kind of housing in order to address the region’s ongoing housing shortage. Join SPUR for a nuanced conversation on housing types that some consider more attainable or “affordable by design,” such as micro-units, in-law units and modular construction. Co-presented by ULI Silicon Valley. More information here.

San Francisco Supervisor Tang recently introduced legislation that could be a major boon for families and workers seeking housing. The proposal would incentivize real estate developers to include units specifically for families and low- and middle-income San Franciscans and would provide fees for the city’s public schools. Can this change how we build in San Francisco? Bring your questions and hear from the experts. Co-presented by the San Francisco Housing Action Coalition. More information here.

The region’s out-of-control housing market affects everyone, but it impacts those who are currently homeless most of all, and agencies and organizations continue to search for new models to provide a home for everyone. Santa Clara County’s Measure A, which passed in 2016, will allocate funding to help build affordable housing, while other groups are experimenting with solutions like tiny homes and permanent supportive housing. Join SPUR to learn how these groups are working to house the homeless. More information here.

Over the next 20 years, the population of Americans aged 65 and older is expected to grow by over 60 percent, but many of our current forms of housing aren’t designed for aging residents. What needs to be designed to accommodate this population, and what is being built? Join SPUR as they look at the lessons that can be learned from recently completed senior housing projects across the Bay Area. More information here.
