NPH Advances Regional Funding Strategy in Three Counties

Advocates Shape Santa Clara Homeless & Housing Bond

To craft the strongest measure addressing today’s deep concerns about homelessness and ongoing affordable housing sustainability needs, NPH leaders spoke in support of a proposed $750 million bond to build permanent supportive housing as well as homes for extremely and very low-income families, including survivors of domestic abuse, veterans, and the 6,000 people homeless today in Santa Clara County.

We encourage housing advocates to turn out in force for the Tuesday, June 21 Supervisors’ meeting (70 W. Hedding St, first floor, San Jose) where we anticipate a vote on the proposal.

San Mateo County Measure in Consideration

San Mateo County’s Jobs/ Housing Gap Task Force will meet again on June 23. NPH’s Matt Franklin and Michael Lane are appointees and have been working closely with community leaders to create local revenue sources for affordable homes, including consideration of an extension and augmentation of Measure A, the 2012 measure that has helped to resource the Housing Innovation Fund and affordable developments. Watch for announcements of potential hearings in July.

Alameda County Community Engagement Process Reaches 800 People

East Bay Housing Organizations director Gloria Bruce led a delegation of developers, advocates and residents, including SAHA, MidPen, Habitat for Humanity, Hello Housing, Enterprise and other NPH/EBHO members, who spoke in support of affordable homes at a June 6 Supervisors work session.

County Supervisors have added a work session on Tuesday, June 21 (9:30 am in Chambers, 1221 Oak St., 5^th Floor, Oakland) to finalize the policy proposal for a proposed $500 million bond for affordable rental and homeownership programs. Public comment at 15 prior community forums and meetings has urged increased investment in solutions for the poorest and most vulnerable in our communities. NPH and East Bay Housing Organizations are coordinating closely to plan community and resident outreach this fall.

We encourage housing advocates to turn out in force for the Tuesday, June 28 Supervisors’ meeting (Meeting starts at 9:30 am, we expect our item at 10:45 am, 1221 Oak St., 5^th Floor, Oakland) for the anticipated final vote on a completed proposal.
