FACEBOOK COMMITS $1B TO TACKLE AFFORDABLE HOUSING SHORTAGES

Last week, Facebook followed in the footsteps of other tech giants and pledged to help tackle the housing crisis in the Bay Area and California. According to Facebook, $1 billion in both money and land will be used over 10 years to help create up to 20,000 homes "where teachers, nurses and other essential workers can live closer to the communities they serve."

Facebook’s housing commitment follows a similar pledge from Google this past June. Google committed $1 billion for a plan that includes "subsidies for market-rate and affordable homes."

Via Mercury News, NPH Executive Director Amie Fishman noted that “the need for bold affordable housing solutions has become too urgent for major companies like Facebook to ignore. Their commitment is an important step in the right direction.”
