In Anticipation of Election Day’s Unprecedented Number of Affordable Housing Measures

“These are unprecedented times for our region. Never before have we seen affordable housing on the ballot as we have this election cycle. Safe, stable and affordable housing dominated the ballot from state to local measures. This is a reflection that affordable housing is a top priority for voters, and communities want bold solutions for our seniors, families, veterans and most vulnerable communities.

In addition to the statewide Propositions 1 and 2, dedicated affordable housing revenue measures appear on voters’ ballots in Santa Cruz County (Measure H), Napa County (I, F, H, D, E, and S), San Francisco (Prop C), Berkeley (Measure O), San Jose (Measure V), and Santa Rosa (Measure N.)

If passed, each of these measures would increase the ability of our communities around the Greater Bay Area to address our local housing crisis, with the potential to raise over $7 billion in dedicated funding for safe, stable and affordable housing.

Make no mistake – this Election Day, voters have an enormous opportunity to make a difference for our seniors, our veterans, our vulnerable neighbors, and our communities.”

BACKGROUND

In recent years, voters around the Greater Bay Area have voted with supermajority support for affordable housing measures, including San Francisco Prop A in 2015; Santa Clara County Measure A, San Mateo County Measure K, Alameda County Measure A1 in 2016; and most recently Emeryville Measure C in June 2018.
