Update: Housing Bills passed during 2017 Legislative Session

The Legislature made crucial first steps in addressing the state’s affordable housing crisis in the 2017 Legislative Session including passing the first permanent funding source for affordable housing in over a decade.

We are so pleased to share that the housing package, including essential funding bills SB 2 and SB 3, passed with bipartisan support out of the California Legislature. Additional critical housing measures, including AB 1521, AB 1598, and AB 1157, which will strengthen preservation and production of affordable housing, are also on their way to the Governor’s desk.

“These votes are vital steps in addressing our state’s housing catastrophe,” said NPH Executive Director Amie Fishman. “But as all Californians know – and Bay Area residents especially – we didn’t get into this housing crisis overnight, and it will take continued effort to identify and bring forward solutions.”

“It is crucial that the Governor sign the housing package the Legislature has now sent him, and that our leaders continue their work to re-invest in our communities and create more affordable housing for our seniors, our veterans, people with disabilities, and hardworking families.”
