Dear affordable housing supporter,

NPH was proud to work with Enterprise Community Partners and our members to successfully pass Assembly Bill 1487. AB 1487 laid the groundwork to meet the Bay Area’s housing challenges by granting the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) new authority and tools to raise funds subject to voter approval, deploy resources, and provide technical assistance to local jurisdictions on a regional level.

But AB 1487 was just the first step to guarantee quality housing for all of our neighbors. We’ll need our elected officials at MTC and ABAG to commit to putting an ambitious regional affordable housing funding measure on voters’ November 2020 ballots. You can help put these efforts into action by endorsing the campaign to advocate for affordable housing across the entire Bay Area region!

We’re all concerned about our friends, family, and neighbors being able to find a place to call home. This is our chance to do something about it! Let’s build the foundation for our future, together.

WHY A REGIONAL MEASURE?

Two recently released housing reports offer a strong case for Bay Area regional entities the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) and Metropolitan Transportation Committee (MTC) to move forward a regional affordable housing measure.

The first report, released by, California Housing Partnership establishes how and when the Bay Area lost significant housing production and preservation funds, and demonstrates the impact that revenue loss has had in making the Bay Area housing market’s inaccessible to many critical community members. The report also offers recommended solutions, including encouraging Bay Area regional entities to pursue regional revenue to make up for the lost state and federal revenue over the past decade.

The second report demonstrates what may be the pathway to the solution identified in the CHP report. A polling memo summarizing the findings spanning two regional polls conducted by EMC Research for NPH and shows that support has grown for a regional revenue measure, and that voters overwhelmingly agree that the region should embrace a comprehensive regional approach to housing solutions.

“There is a pathway forward to create a thriving, diverse Bay Area that works for all of our neighbors, no matter their race or income,” said Amie Fishman, NPH Executive Director. “Voters are ready for solutions and our elected leaders are poised for action. We look forward to working with MTC and ABAG to make sure voters have the opportunity in 2020 to say yes to big, bold, meaningful change!”
