Garfield Park Village, a Christian Church Homes (CCH) senior living community in Santa Cruz, California recently completed a $33 million renovation with the goal of preserving deeply affordable, sustainable, senior housing in the city. Garfield Park Village is CCH’s first senior property, constructed in 1964. It is also one of the earliest affordable senior housing projects funded by HUD under the Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly Program. In 2014, it became the first project in the country to include a SPRAC, Senior Preservation Rental Assistance Contract, which provides project-based rental subsidies to previously unassisted elderly residents.
