PRIORITY BILLS PROGRESS THROUGH LEGISLATURE
We’re proud to report that several key NPH priority bills for the 2018 legislative session have passed through the Legislature and sent to Governor Brown, where they are now awaiting his signature.
We were honored to support these critical bills, building on the progress from last legislative year’s historic housing package and continuing to make progress on our mission to achieve a Bay Area and California where everyone has access to an affordable and stable place to call home. Now, we need your help encouraging Governor Brown to support and sign these priority bills:
-
AB 2035 (Mullin), which will strengthen “Affordable Housing Authorities,” a critical tax-increment financing tool for local governments to address the housing affordability crisis without raising taxes;
-
AB 2162 (Chiu), which will address California’s homelessness crisis by allowing non-profit developers to build supportive housing without the prolonged approval process typically required for these projects;
-
AB 2562 (Mullin), which will create more affordable housing across California by providing HCD with tools to increase the financial feasibility of new affordable housing developments in the face of disinvestment from the federal government and substantially rehabilitate existing developments with older MHP loans;
-
AB 2923 (Chiu and Grayson), which will enable the construction of thousands of new affordable homes at and around BART stations, resulting in fewer cars and congestion on our Bay Area region’s roads.
While Governor Brown has until September 30 to sign or veto bills sent to his desk, we expect him to act on these bills soon. That’s why we need you to voice your support today.
Help demonstrate the Bay Area’s need for and support of these bills. Use our Action Center materials, including fact sheets and sample support letters, and then visit the Governor’s Contact Page to urge the Governor to sign these bills.
