“California is doubling down on doing our part to offer a safe, affordable, and welcoming future for all our friends, families, and neighbors. So it should be no surprise to see Bay Area lawmakers prioritizing housing affordability, with today’s introduction of the Affordable Housing Bond Acts of 2026.

Having a stable, affordable place to call home is voters’ number one concern, as well as one of the most foundational policy choices we can make to set our communities up for success.

This proposal, which would be the largest statewide bond to-date, is a critical step in aligning our policy planning with Californians’ values and our communities’ needs.”

Today, Assemblymember Buffy Wicks (D-Oakland) and Senator Christopher Cabaldon (D-Yolo) introduced Assembly Bill 736 and Senate Bill 417, legislation that would place a bond measure on the June 2026 ballot to provide $10 billion to California’s affordable housing programs. See here for more information about these twin proposals.
