NPH and Silicon Valley @Home partnered to tour affordable homes in Santa Clara County with leaders from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission on March 30.

MTC shares NPH’s nine-county footprint and works with the Association of Bay Area Governments to facilitate housing connections to transit. MTC executive director Steve Heminger said, “We have transportation problems in the Bay Area, but we have a housing crisis in the Bay Area. They have influence on each other and we need to work together on solutions.”

The delegation toured sites featuring transit connections and showcasing the longevity and attractiveness of affordable homes. With support from developers and SV@Home, the tour targeted:

  • Construction underway on MidPen Housing’s Donner Lofts in downtown San Jose
  • Family homes and studio apartments at Riverwood Grove and Riverwood Place by MidPen near Levi Stadium and VTA light rail lines
  • Gish Apartments and Japantown Senior Apartments by First Community Housing
  • Archer Studios by Charities Housing
  • Belovida at Newbury Park by CORE / EAH and Kings Crossing by Charities Housing near the future Berryessa BART station
  • Ohlone Chynoweth by Eden Housing and Ohlone Court by BRIDGE Housing

“It was a great opportunity to showcase the quality and sustainability of affordable homes. The properties and the residents really tell our story of creating transit-oriented affordable homes and strong communities,” said Amie Fishman. “Our only regret was not having enough time to visit more locations, but we hope to do it again soon!”
